Maximum The Hormone

マキシマムザホルモン
Nao Kawakita - drums, Ryo Kawakita (Maximum The Ryo) – guitar & vocals, Daisuke Han (Daisuke Tsuda) - vocals, Uehara Futoshi (Ue-chan) – bass &vocals, are Japanese hardcore band from Hachiouji, Tokyo. I kinda confused to determine which music genre they’re playing..? They mix the punk, funk, hardcore, metal into one..I mean, they didn’t put the metal riff only on their music, which most of nu-metal or hardcore band always playing around with.

I discovered them cause I kinda curious when Rina of SCANDAL said that one of her favorite track is Maximum The Hormone’s Zetsubou Billy, and she’s also one of Nao’s fans. She really adore on how Nao play her drums, well, I think Rina really did her homework as a drummer, and heard lots of stuff, considering SCANDAL and MTH play different music.
So, I search the video, and I said OK, this is the hardcore-punk stuff with the melodic vocal from Nao and unique Japanese pronounciation on their vocals..which is kinda blew me a bit when she did her vocal part while playing not-so-easy-drumpart..And on the side note, there’s not many ladies drummer playing metal stuff as awesome as her.

Then, my friend from US send me youtube link of Buikikaesu PV (thanks, auntie!^_^)..And this one really blew me off the wall! What the..?! Those funky bass, punk, hardcore, and metal mixes together perfectly. Begin with a nu-metal intro riff along with funky bass and then Daisuke vocal came in to warm up the song..I really enjoy the 2nd verse a lot -thanks to Ue-chan groovy funky bass- and of course the bridge & refrain where Nao sang along with Ryo! Ok, now they got me..!! Straight right into the ear..! Awesomeness above all!!
The other track that catch my attention is ‘What’s Up People!?’, with catchy guitar riff, scatting vocal from Ryo&Daisuke, kickin’ bass, and tricky drum part..They win my heart!

After Nao delivered her baby safely, they released ‘Chiisana Kimi No Te’ PV’s which surprised me for a while. At the 1st part they played a calm song that describe how they praised Nao’s baby and wish her for happiness..and then, at the 2nd  part they turn the course and came back to their root..hehe..Nice!

They also have reached Oricon with Koi No Mega Lover single and Buikikaesu album..Well, that’s fantastic considering they playing really ‘different’ music among most of J-pop/J-rock bands. An awesome ones!

And they also often perform abroad, such as Hellfest (France), Pentaport Rock Festival (South Korea),  and their own tour named〈EURO TOUR 2011〉ENON~the movie~.

Well, metal is always became my root of favorite music..And I’m glad now I found one from Japan,v^_^..
Hmm, and I should proclaimed myself as a-too-late-J-music-fans..hehe.
